Crawl
Welded steel armature, high strength plaster, bronze polymer finish
Donated by the artist, 2000
Manly Surf Pavilion, South Steyne
Inspired by the artist’s fond childhood memories of swimming
at Manly, the sculpture celebrates the ‘Australian Crawl’,
contemporary surf club culture and the vital role of surf life saving
in Australia.
The surface treatment of the work reflects the colour of sea rocks
and the corroded appearance of a relic from the ocean. Through
this sculpture, nature, movement and the corrosiveness of time fuse
together.
