Shell and Wave
Shell and Wave is a tribute to the surf lifesavers from the three
Manly branches who carried out 41,000 surf rescues up to 1988.
This sculpture was carved by sculptor Cliff Axelsen with the
assistance of the 1988 students of Art & Design, Seaforth College
of TAFE, as a Bicentennial Project. The design is organic in form
carved out of a rock which fell from the towering cliff above.
Cliff Axelsen is an Armidale based sculptor who has worked on a
number of community sculpture projects and Sculpture by the Sea.
