LEONARD THE LYREBIRD – FAMILY CONCERT Sydney Chamber Music Festival
Imagine settling into a sunlit gallery space just steps from the Manly waterfront, your child beside you, as a story begins to unfold not from a page, but from the instruments in front of you.
Leonard the Lyrebird is an original Australian classical work composed by Ian Munro, inspired by Jodie McLeod’s much loved children’s book. It is a story about a lyrebird who discovers that the very thing that makes him different is his greatest gift. It is a story about friendship, bravery and finding your voice.
What makes this concert special is the intimacy of the experience. The composer himself narrates the story live, guiding young listeners through the music as Frank Celata on clarinet, Teije Hylkema on cello and Grace Kim on piano bring each moment to life. You are not watching from a distance, you are inside the story.
