North Head Discovery Tour – Beyond The Barracks
Get a taste for North Head Sanctuary in Manly and explore a historic structure from the Second World War which is off limits to general visitors. At 40 minutes, this bite sized tour is ideal for new visitors.
Accompanied by a knowledgeable volunteer guide you’ll discover North Head’s Barracks Precinct, including its iconic parade ground, and get a chance to dip your toes into its fascinating military story.
From there, they will introduce you to the area’s delicate but vibrant landscape and lead you inside the Observation Post – a historic military landmark that was recently restored with the help of specialist volunteers.
Cost:Â $11 per adult, $8 per child, $8 per concession, $8 per senior. Companion Cards are accepted.

Meeting point:Â Rangers Gatehouse located at the northern end of the Parade Ground in the Barracks Precinct, North Head Sanctuary
What to wear:Â Enclosed walking shoes suitable for uneven terrain, a sunhat and wet weather gear (if needed). Long pants recommended.
Weather advice:Â This is an outdoor all weather event. Tours will go ahead under most weather conditions, except when unsafe weather has been forecast. Please note some sections of the route can become slippery and muddy following heavy rainfall.
