You don’t need to travel far from Sydney to feel a million miles away. Just 20 minutes on the ferry from Circular Quay, Manly offers the perfect destination for a couple’s weekend or better yet a mid-week escape with its coastal charm and laidback lifestyle.

Whether you’re celebrating something special or looking for a spontaneous trip, this itinerary is full of romantic sunrises and sunsets, indulgent food and drink plus some outdoor adventures – all without leaving Sydney.

Day 1 – Check in and relax

Manly Pavilion

Check in and unwind in one of the many romantic accommodations in Manly. From rooftop pools and luxury rooms to ocean views and room service, you’re spoilt for choice. Find your perfect stay and recharge.

Head wharf side and enjoy an extraordinary seaside dinner at Hugo’s or Manly Pavilion for great views and even better food.

Then head for a night cap at , The Espy or enjoy the small bar vibe at Banco or The Cumberland.

Day 2 – Adventure and romance

Manly Bikes

Start your day early just like the locals do by watching the sunrise over the ocean at world-famous Manly Beach. Grab a coffee on your way from one of the many cafes and take in the view (don’t forget your reusable cup).

Now it’s time for an adventure! Rent a double kayak or a small boat with Manly Kayak Centre and explore hidden coves and secret beaches. Pack a picnic with takeaway from one of the many great cafes and enjoy a romantic lunch on a secluded beach.

The adventure continues by hiring bikes from Manly Bikes – you can even rent a tandem bike – a bicycle built for 2! Put together some gourmet food from Norma’s Deli, Bottega Manly, Salumerie or one of the other brilliant eateries then pick up a good drop of organic/natural wine from Winona Wine. Jump on your bike and work up a sweat to get yourselves up to North Head where you can enjoy your picnic, explore more trails or simply take in the extraordinary views all the way to Sydney city’s skyline.

Or if cooling off in the water is more your idea of fun, why not try something new and take a private surf lesson for 2 with Manly Surf School. Their expert teachers will have you both riding the waves. There will be spills, thrills and lots of laughs.

If you’re looking for a more relaxing bike ride, cruise over to Shelly Beach where you can stop for a dip at Fairy Bower pool on the way.

Now it’s time to hit beachside for an early dinner at The Pantry, Cibaria, Manly Grill, Hemingways or so many other great options depending on your taste.

Next up is a spooky ghost tour at the North Head’s Q Station. Uncover the haunting stories of tragedy, untimely deaths and restless spirits that linger from over 150 years of history. A quirky and fun way to hold each other close – especially if you’re easily spooked!

To settle your nerves after coming face to face with the paranormal, visit Donny’s or InSitu for a cosy cocktail.

Day 3: Explore, indulge and relax

Start your day by heading out on a private snorkelling tour of Manly with EcoTreasures or Snorkelling Shelly Beach and their expert local guides. Discover 160+ species of marine life in the aquatic reserve from Blue Gropers to turtles.

After all that swimming, treat yourselves to a well-earned leisurely brunch. With Manly’s vibrant café scene tucked into charming laneways and back streets, take your time wandering and find the perfect spot that catches your eye – whether it’s a cosy corner café or a bustling brunch favourite.

After brunch, enjoy a rejuvenating couples massage at Sah Sin – designed to pamper and relax. Then reward yourself on a weekend well spent with some retail therapy by browsing the boutiques and shops.

Wrap up your trip with a hand-in-hand stroll along the beach and start planning your next visit to Manly.

If you’re lucky enough to have more than 48 hours, there’s so much more to explore in Manly or venture a little further and check out Palm Beach and the rest of the Northern Beaches.
