The Sydney Harbour Challenge is a man Outrigger Canoe Race and is one of Australia’s most prestigious events in this sport.
Each year, the event attracts over 800 competitors and is quickly becoming one of the most popular outrigger canoe races, with people from all countries around the globe coming to Australia to participate.
This iconic race starts from Manly Wharf, going all the way across Sydney Heads and into Sydney Harbour. All along the way passing iconic landmarks such as Taronga Zoo, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and Luna Park, before returning to the finish line at Manly Wharf. Across the course of the race, canoers can expect to paddle up to 22kms – this is not an easy task and is a spectacular feat of endurance by the keen participants.
With the celebrating another year at the Harbour, there is sure to be plenty of colour and excitement buzzing around the hub of Manly. So not only is this fantastic water sport a great experience for competitors, but also for the thousands of spectators who attend this prestigious event.
In the lead up to the race crews from all over Australia and the world come together to race it out for the champions title. Weather conditions provide challenges throughout the course but crews work hard to get through the race and make it to the finish line.
Aside from the main event, there is plenty on around Manly to entertain spectators. If visitors are feeling hungry they can grab a bite to eat at one of the nearby food vans or local restaurants. The race concludes in Manly with a presentation ceremony at 6.30pm where spectators can cheer on the winners.
