"DON'T FEED THE SEAGULLS! DON'T FEED THE SEAGULLS! DON'T FEED THE SEAGULLS!" - Quote from anyone who has seen the ramifications of feeding the pesky little things.
Let's talk about some of the justifications behind not feeding the thousands and thousands of seagulls that flock the wonderful Manly Beach everyday.
REASON #1: Seagulls become extremely aggressive when it comes to getting fed by the human species. Manly Beach has the absolute best fish and chips in Australia which means there is no reason you need to share this delicious speciality. If two seagulls spot the same hot savoury chip in your hand, then they will both come flying towards you to take your chip and maybe even your index finger too!
REASON #2: Being in Manly is like being in paradise, and what is the last thing you would like to be while lounging around this seaside village? BEING SICK! Seagull poo can become very harmful to humans because their disease infested waste can be easily transmitted to us. The more we feed them, the more poo they create, which will increase the chance of us feeling under the weather.
REASON #3: Wherever the food is, most likely the seagulls are. We know this to be true seeing that most seagulls are along the Manly Beach front where your mates like to grab some to-go fish and chips from the corso, and also by Macca's which is a popular spot for seagull 'snacks' to be bought. Seagulls will change their migratory behaviour all because they seem to stick wherever they can get the most food. Changing that behaviour can become a big issue when winter rolls around and the seagulls end up getting a little too chilly because all they are worried about is the next chip they will be getting.
Now that you know some of the main reasons to stop feeding the seagulls, I hope you think twice the next time you are thinking about giving the little stinkers a 'snack'.
